Jewish Genealogy in Argentina

The online center of Jewish Genealogy in Argentina

Jewish Genealogy Information

This site was conceived as a center of resources for Jewish genealogy research in Argentina.  We have compiled information, surnames of Jewish origin in Argentina, Daitch-Mokotoff soundex for Ashkenazic names explanation, etc…

We also explain the information a research can find in documents from government institutions such as birth, marriage and death certificates from the Civil Registry offices, voter lists and reports from the electoral authority, the Archive of the Army and inheritance succession documents from the Archives of the Courts.

Other resources are tombstones of the Jewish cemeteries which are great sources of genealogy information.  They use to be written in Hebrew but with a little training it is not hard to read.

Also, obituaries are a great source.  In the Public National Library you can request old newspapers and search there for obituaries if you know the date of death.  You will surely find there the names of the complete family of the deceased person.

We have scanned the phone directory of Buenos Aires of 1950.  This is one of the greatest resources.  We are working now on its migration to this new style of the website.  Also we are working on organizing the Jewish surnames of Argentina by origin and provenance like Warsaw, Lublin, Plock, Lomza, Radom, Suwalki, Bessarabia and more regions from the Pale of Settlement.
